Let us pray.
Let's try something less analytical. What are you praying about these days that you might like us to join you in? Anything from the very personal to the extensively global would be fine: how might we be praying with and for you?
A welcomed interlude to get in touch at a different level.
As generic as it may sound, I am praying for clear direction as to how I can best invest gifts and callings for the days ahead. My sense is that 2008 will involve changes that will be significant. Prayers regarding what that means will be appreciated.
Glad for your prayers. We are presently contending for a 41/2 year old child in our church who is one of six children. Her name is Hannah Cate, a child with downs syndrome, who recently was diagnosed with Leukemia. She is cute as a button. We are believing for nothing less than Complete healing. Many, many thanks....
A request for prayer gets personal. It moves things from expressing opinions and positions...strength...to weakness...where we have to acknowledge need. Things slow down...we have to ask honest questions...and expose areas where we don't have it together...and need to receive.
Sue and I need prayers for a family member who suffers from bipolar disorder which is having a deep impact on our family. We just don't know what to do. You don't need to know more. Prayers gratefully recieved.
This is a great topic. I need prayer over the upcoming holiday with many members of my family who are not believers. And, that my wife Eliza will be able to really rest over the holiday break.
Also, just daily closeness with Christ Jesus for the both of us.
In all seriousness, we need prayer for the company Debbie works for. They have graciously kept her on the books for her insurance and have paid for it. It is a real-estate development company and they have let go all of their employees accept for my daughter (the office manager) and Debbie. There is closing on a land deal on Dec. 28th, that if it does not go through, they are out of business ... and we are out of health insurance.
If that happens, I will need to leave the Ph.D. program and get a job for the insurance. Deb's medical care is currently costing $25,000 every two weeks ... my FIU TA insurance has a lifetime cap of a quarter of a million ... not very good for a cancer patient.
So ... please pray that God blesses Greendevco company for their generosity and integrity and that they can stay in business.
Robert, thanks for letting us know about the bi-polar issues ... we have some experience with that in some friends and family members as well and I can pray for the situation with heart felt compassion.
Thank you, Brian, for the new direction. My only regret is that the Blog does not allow one to type in bold, italics, etc. Never-the-less, here are my requests:
1. My family. I am particlarly burdened that my oldest son, Eric, and my youngest son, Kyle, are not walking in close relationship with the LORD. Eric's fiance', Andrea, who, is German, is VERY close! Thank you for prayers for her, too.
2. In January, I will be taking my third trip to Banda Aceh, Indonesia, and leading a team of four, including one of my daughters, Amy. We are presently undergoing more than 24 hours of preparation. Please pray that we will find a good price on the airline tickets, plus the usual requests for safety, divine appointments, etc.
3. Finally, Fred and I are on the verge of something HUGE in our our church! If we move forward on it, it will be the biggest step that we have taken since our merge, more than 7 years ago! Space does not permit going into detail, but it relates to "One New Man" (Eph. 2), Jew and Gentile together in Messiah, Jesus.
In light of Thanksgiving, we could also include prayers of thanksgiving to the Lord.
I have so many things to be thankful for. Since moving to Nashville, the LORD has blessed us tremendously. He has given my wife a job at Vanderbilt where I go to school. He has guarded my faith and made it stronger in Him despite the different environment. We have peace in our home, and He has protected us from the onsluaght of the enemy.
Awesome Sean. I've been trying to formulate some sort of prayer request post, but find it eluding me (not that I/we don't have plenty of needs), but I totally resonate with your post and suggestion. Thank you Lord, for your grace, mercy, forgiveness, provision and blessings. Thank you for my family: my wife, children and grandchildren, my sons in law and son-in-law to be (who by the way is taking my baby to his house for Thanksgiving Day... I love him anyway!) I thank you Lord in all things and for all things.
I have always liked the prayer that Mel Gibson's character prayed in The Patriot, "Lord make me fast and accurate."
I find that I shoot up arrow prayers throughout the day more than having long peticionary prayers in the morning like I used to. Sometimes it is like light conversation...other times it is like a argument, or a lover's quarrel. Sometimes we share a moment of humor together.
Recently I have been listening a lot to a secular rock station that features music from the 80s and 90s - mostly rock classics. I have had the unusual feeling of hearing a lot of passionate love songs as though God were singing to me.
This morning I woke up with Foreigner's 1984 hit song "I want to know what love is" in my mind...I looked up the words and realized it was the prayer in my heart this morning.
"I gotta take a little time A little time to think things over I better read between the lines In case I need it when Im older
Now this mountain I must climb Feels like a world upon my shoulders I through the clouds I see love shine It keeps me warm as life grows colder
In my life theres been heartache and pain I dont know if I can face it again Cant stop now, Ive traveled so far To change this lonely life
I wanna know what love is I want you to show me I wanna feel what love is I know you can show me"
Amen, Joseph! I appreciate your honesty about how your "prayer life" has changed and developed, and about the current prayer of your heart: I want to know what love is. Amen!
It's funny, but when I think about writing something about "Here's how you could pray for me," it 's a temptation not to just stay in control... and also assumes that I have some idea of what I most need from God currently, which is likely something of a joke. But here's my request: pray that I would learn to pray. I have no idea where I am as a man of prayer and wonder if I have any idea what I'm doing when I try to pray! And no, I don't pray as often or as much as I probably need to, so pray along those lines as well...plus whatever else the Lord might indicate to you!
that can be a dangerous prayer, Brian. I prayed something along those lines in the mid-90s and wound up with two years of several back problems, surgery, and muscle spasms every 15 minutes post-op. It motivated me to pray!
Perhaps I would like to pray that God would draw you into deeper intimacy with him ... prayer will flow automatically as a result of intimacy.
Hi all, It has been great being able to pray for all of you. My prayer request is for the neighborhood Bible Study that meets at my house. It began in my neighbor's driveway during the summer and we have been meeting every week since. The couples are young (25-31) and really interested in learning about following Jesus. My prayer for them is that the Spirit would touch their lives in a way that they know Him and not just know about Him. My wife and I want to be sensitive to the Spirit in ways we can extend His love toward them. Each week is different. People are beginning to open up more. Anyway, your prayers would be appreciated.
John, I'm praying for Hannah Cate. Robert, one of my close friends struggles with bi-polarity; I know that is difficult. I am praying. Jose, I will be praying for the real estate deal. Sean, I pray you guys have a restful and joyful holiday season. Randy, I pray you will find the revelation of bold and italics, as well as a safe trip! Brian, May your journey to deeper intimacy with God be filled with His peace.
Today in Bible class (I teach), we read the story of Jesus cursing the fig tree out of its season. We saw that Jesus was hungry...and serious...and powerful. In light of His strength, we prayed that it would snow this year in Mobile. When I was in 6th grade, Keith Curlee prayed for snow and snow came.
But that's not what I would like you guys to pray for. I have some allergy problems that seem to getting more and more severe as time goes on. God healed me once from this, though it's back now. Please pray for complete healing from all food allergies.
Lastly, we have a college-age community here that I happen to head up for the time being. As men who know what it is to walk in covenant and productivity, please pray that God will increase His presence among us.
Quick thought--if you notice any answers, or movement, along thse prayer lines, please let us know. It's not that I expect instant or dramatic answers, just know that often I am quick to ask folks to pray, but slower to acknowledge God's movements in response to ou prayers.
Please pray: we need to grow our Christian school from its current 50 or so students to 150 or so, over the next couple of years. Today I got a call from a realtor about a church building that is literally across the street from us, and that had been a daycare center for 25+ years...the daycare moved and now there might be some space available! Might be one of God's "suddenlys"?
"When is the last time you had a great conversation, a conversation that was not just two intersecting monologues... but a conversation in which...
--you overheard yourself saying things you never knew you knew
--you heard yourself receiving from somebody words that absolutely found places within you that you thought you had lost
--the two of you were brought onto a different plane
--the conversation continued to sing in your mind for weeks afterwards?"

Prayers for company success on the way. May provision abound.
